the long winter -2027 Calendar
twelve gods, monsters and outcasts from the old north. all of them still here.
The gods of the old north were afraid of a lot of things. A wolf for what he might become. A serpent for being too big. A daughter for being half in the dark.
the long winter retells twelve figures from Norse myth from the side nobody listened to. Each month pairs a fine-line engraving with a line in their voice:
jan · Sleipnir: born with too many legs. still the fastest thing in nine worlds.
feb · Ratatoskr: i only passed on what they said. somehow i'm the problem.
mar · Týr: i gave a part of me so you could feel safe.
apr · Loki: you liked me fine when i was useful.
may · Höðr: they put it in my hand. then they called me the monster.
jun · Hel: half of me looks fine. that's the only half you see.
jul · Skaði: i tried your halls. i belong to the mountain.
aug · Fenrir: you chained me for what i might become.
sep · Sæhrímnir: it takes everything from me by night. by morning, i'm whole again.
oct · the völva: i told you how it ends. you asked me to smile.
nov · Odin: i gave up an eye to finally see clearly.
dec · Jörmungandr: too big for their world, so they threw me in the sea.
The months follow the Australian seasons, so the longest nights land in winter and the year ends with the heat coming back. The art is drawn in white and one flat safety orange on black. There are no runes or borrowed symbols, just the stories.
For the outcasts, the chained, the too-much and the half-in-the-dark. And anyone who loves an old story told properly.
